Phytotherapy has very ancient origins. It is among the oldest medical and pharmaceutical disciplines. The first indications of the use of plants as medicaments are in fact found among the Egyptians, Jews and Phoenicians around 3000-2000 BC and among the Asian peoples (particularly the ashes) 8000-4000 years before the coming of Christ. Later the knowledge of medicinal plants spread to the Greeks and then to the ancient Western world.
