Ansirens® is a product specially developed for the needs of children and adolescents who have anxiety symptoms with or without somatic manifestations. Its drop formulation allows greater handling and action of its components.

Context

Children and adolescents need, even more than adults, to experience feelings of well-being and to feel mentally and physically in balance. In fact, while they are still growing, they find themselves having to face the high complexity of the current lifestyle. 15 to 20% of children and adolescents experience anxiety disorders. These can manifest themselves not only with anxieties and fears, but also with headaches, lack of concentration, sleep disturbances, stomach pains and irritability. (1,2) Manifestations of fears and anxiety can already occur in preschool to a considerable extent (3-6 years). (3) There is scientific consensus that these children (and their families) must be supported and treated with appropriate therapies to minimize the risk of developing major problems in adolescence and adulthood. The use of complementary medicine, such as herbal medicines, can be a valuable aid for these children and their families. (2.4)

Ingredients

Ansirens® is a food supplement based on plant extracts consisting of:

  • Equilmixin®
  • Linden
  • Rhodiola.
Scientific rationale

Rhodiola
Origine – Rhodiola also known as rosenroot, arctic root or golden root among other names, is the root of Rhodiola rosea L., a 40-50 cm tall, unbranched plant with succulent leaves and stem and yellow-red flowers. It grows in the rocky crevices on the mountains and on the sea cliffs of the Arctic regions of Europe, Asia (mainly Siberia) and North America.

Its use dates back to the Viking era and the first reference is also found in the Swedish pharmacopoeia of 1775. In Russia, Rhodiola rosea is one of the most popular plant adaptogens: it was first recommended in 1969 by the “Pharmacological Committee of the Ministry of Health “of the USSR for use as a stimulant against fatigue by patients who have suffered from asthenic states and by healthy people who have experienced asthenia during periods of high mental or physical exertion. (5) As a food supplement, the European Authority for Health and Food Safety (EFSA) states that Rhodiola helps maintain optimal mental and cognitive activities. (6)

Bioactive principles – In preclinical studies it has been shown that the main active compounds are rosavin and salidroside. The Rhodiola present in Ansirens® has a titration of 3% in rosavine and 1% in salidroside.

Therapeutic properties – Rhodiola is used as a tonic-adaptogen in case of physical and mental fatigue and to promote normal mood. (7)
Thanks to its adaptogenic properties it increases the body’s resistance to external stimuli and stress.

Mechanism of action – Rhodiola exerts its beneficial action through the regulation of homeostasis through various mechanisms of action associated with the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis such as the regulation of cortisol, the control of key biochemical mediators in the stress response such as protein-kinase p-JNK , nitric oxide and the expression of proteins involved in stress defense mechanisms such as FoxO / DAF-16. (5)

Tolerability – Rhodiola rosea is well tolerated and safe. Randomized clinical trials did not reveal any significant side effects. (5)

Linden
Origine – It is given by the dried flowers of Tilia cordata Mill. and / or Tilia platyphyllos Scop. This last, also called summer linden, very common in Europe and Italy, are trees up to 30 meters high that are cultivated for ornamentation along the avenues and gardens due to their growth and longevity. The yellowish flowers are gathered in pendulous inflorescences with a pleasant and characteristic scent. Dried flowers have a pleasant and sweet taste given by the interaction of astringent tannins with mucilage and aromatic substances. (8)
Bioactive principles – Flavonoids, tannins (2%), essential oil, caffeic, chlorogenic and p-coumaric acids and mucilaginous substances (3%). (8)
Therapeutic properties – Linden has sedative and anxiolytic properties and promotes relaxation in case of stress. (9)

Mechanism of action – Pre-clinical tests show that lime explains its sedative and anxiolytic action thanks to its flavonoid components through the modulation of peripheral benzodiazepine receptors. (9)
Tolerability – Linden has been used as a traditional remedy for a long time and with no safety concerns for more than 30 years. (9)

Equilmixin®

It is a standardized phytocomplex that contains the active principles of Passiflora (Passiflora incarnata L., herba) and Artichoke (Cynara scolymus L., folium).

Passionflower

Therapeutic properties – Passionflower promotes mental well-being. Traditional use of Passionflower for the relief of symptoms of mental stress and to aid sleep. Well documented in numerous studies. (10)
Mechanism of action – Pre-clinical studies show that the mechanism of action at the base of the anxiolytic effects of Passiflora incarnata can be mediated through the modulation of the GABA system. (10)
Tolerability – Passiflora incarnata is generally well tolerated. No adverse event seems to have been reported for products registered in the EU. (10)

Artichoke
Therapeutic properties – Artichoke helps purify the body. Has hepatoprotective properties, antioxidants and promotes the elimination of intestinal gas. (11)
Mechanism of action – At present, the mechanism of action of the Artichoke and its main compounds cannot be considered clarified. (11)
Tolerability – Preparations containing Artichoke are generally well tolerated. No major adverse events were reported from clinical pharmacology studies on humans with preparations containing Artichoke leaf extracts. Clinical studies involved over 1600 subjects with a study duration of up to 2 years. (11)
